SMOC 2011 in San Francisco

Just last month on May 23rd I was speaking at SMOC (“Social Media Optimization Conference“) in San Francisco, on yet another young entrepreneur panel! The session was called “Teen Entrepreneurs Give the Inside Scoop on Social Media”, flanked by fellow panelists Daniel Brusilovsky, Benjamin Goering, and Shreya Indukuri. It turned out a great crowd, around 300-400 people, and we had lots of questions and not enough time!

There I met some great people that were particularly memorable and inspiring, such as Hyla Molander, author and speaker and overall amazing woman with one of the most inspiring life stories you’ll ever hear, and Evan Bailyn, fellow internet entrepreneur, SEO expert, author, and creator of the Evan Bailyn Foundation.

So overall SMOC was a really great experience, and one I’d definitely do again! Many thanks to Stewart Quealy for having me speak and running the show, as well as moderating our session!

BlogPaws 2010

Here I am again at BlogPaws, the pet bloggers conference that started just last year. My dad Stephan Spencer spoke at the last one, and was invited back to speak again along with me to do an SEO session called “Driving Traffic Through Search Engine Optimization”. We spoke today already at 11:15, with Mary Archer doing an informative introduction powerpoint, and we brought up blogs on the big screen and critiqued them. Then we started pulling up blogs from the audience and told them what they needed to do to increase traffic to their blog and what exact tweaks that involved. It was a lot of fun! But of course my dad has a lot of great info and loves to talk (yeah thanks dad) so I didn’t get a lot of words in, but I did get a few chances to give my advice! And hopefully more chances tomorrow (yes I’ll be having a talk with him later..lol). And we’re doing the same session tomorrow, but switching it up a bit by having new blog examples and new tips for the audience. So don’t forget to come to our session in the Columbia room at 11:15am tomorrow, if you didn’t today or did and didn’t get a chance to have your blog critiqued, and get told by the experts how exactly you need to change your blog to get the traffic you really want!

P.S. So many cute dogs here, just had to add! And a ton of free pet products. Definitely pet blogger heaven. If you’re a pet blogger make sure you check out BlogPaws 2011. …I suppose I apply, as a VIRTUAL pet blogger :) (my site is NeopetsFanatic.com for those who don’t know).

Speaking at SES San Francisco

I’m sitting in the speakers lounge at SES as I type, awaiting my session “Teen Entrepreneurs Give the Inside Scoop on Youth e-Marketing” coming up at 3:15pm. I will be moderating this particular session, and my panelists presenting are Brian Wong, Daniel Brusilovsky, and Ricky Yean, who are all young successful entrepreneurs. If you’re at SES today, and want to learn about marketing to today’s youth, don’t forget to stop by room 2003 at 3:15!

Blogworld & New Media Expo 09

From the 15-17th of this month I was in Vegas, speaking at BlogWorld & New Media Expo. I was on a panel about making the most money out of your blog as you can, along with Dave Taylor, Tim Jones, and Chris Pirillo. I was also interviewed by WebProNews again, and Darren Rowse from ProBlogger.com, and TechSmith.com. These interviews will be available shortly and I’ll post them on here when they are. Vegas was great–especially since we got to see FOUR shows. And in two nights! The first night we saw Blue Man Group and America’s Got Talent Live with Jerry Springer, and the second night we saw Jersey Boys and Cirque Du Soleil’s “O”. It was overwhelming! Jersey Boys was amazing, loved it. And “O” was incredible; the water-themed Cirque Du Soleil was by far the best I’d seen. And the contortionists are always incredible.

Speaking gig at DMA08, Las Vegas

Hey guys, I’m at the airport right now in Las Vegas, waiting for my flight back home after an exciting day today. This morning I spoke on the panel “Blog Monetization: From Soup to Nuts” at this year’s DMA in Vegas, along with 3 other great speakers, Jeremy Schoemaker a.k.a “Shoemoney”, Steve Spangler “Coke and mentos guy”, and Duane Forrester, author of “How To Make Money With Your Blog”. And in fact moderated by my dad, Stephan Spencer. It was a great panel and we all had a lot of fun. Afterwards dad had organized for all of us to go on a tour of Zappos’ offices building, which was pretty cool. All the meeting rooms had different themes, including a country-ish room, with picnic tables instead of meeting tables and a raccoon on the wall, and another room covered in skateboards, and many more wacky creations. Then later on, we went down the strip and checked out all the other hotels, like the Luxor, Venetian, Paris, Treasure Island, and so on. All very cool. Sadly, no gambling though :( Just kidding, haha. Gambling’s a no-no. Yes, I’ve been told multiple times…guess who from. Lol. Yeah, he’s no fun.

So for those who weren’t at the session (which can’t have been too many people lol because the room was absolutely packed!), I’ll be posting a video of my presentation, and some of whomever else’s that was filmed, on here within the next few days (first I’ll edit it in imovie and add some other cool footage of Las Vegas). Should be fun.
So stay tuned for that!

Ypulse Mashup 08 in San Francisco

Hey everyone, for those who didn’t see me on the ‘Totally Wired Superstars’ panel at Ypulse in July, I’ll give you a little update about how it went and you’ll get to watch the video I put together composed of snippets of questions of mainly my answers, etc. You can also read my interview on ypulse.com. So the conference went great! I met so many neat people, which opened up a lot of really cool opportunities for me, including meeting Ashley Qualls of whateverlife.com and deciding on a partnership of our sites, and people from MTV, Seventeen magazine, Disney Channel, Nickelodeon, and even MC Hammer lol!

Also during my stay in San Francisco, I attended Blogher 08, which was great. It was nice to be back, even if I wasn’t speaking this time. I also got a chance to be on the abc7 Bay area news! The camera crew just happened to be standing there when I was checking in for my badge! :)
You can watch both videos below (just click on the screenshot of me on abc7 and it’ll direct you to the page you can watch the video on):

Speaking at YPulse

Hey everyone, I just wanted to let you all know that I am going to speaking at the Ypulse Mashup conference 2008, July 14-15, in San Francisco. I’m going to discussing the ways of how I market to kids and teenagers, and how others can do it too, and such. Should be a lot of fun.

If you are going to be in town, try to make it!

Speaking at SMX

SMX West 2008 was held in Santa Clara from February 26-28. And I was invited to speak on the panel “Generation Google”, along with 3 other web-savvy teenagers, Harrison Gevirtz, Andrew Sutherland, and Evan Fishkin. It was a Q&A session, moderated by Danny Sulivan, asking questions relating to what search engines we use, what we think of them, what we click on, etc. It was a great opportunity for me to be up there, and I loved speaking. Lots of fun. :)

Speaking at BlogHer 2007

On July 28, I got the chance to speak at BlogHer ’07 in Chicago, on a panel called “Professional Blogging: Ways and Means”, on which I spoke about my website, SEO and how I make my money, along with 3 other women who also make money through blogging. It was my very first conference, and it was a great turn-out; the room was so packed that people were standing up in the back and sitting on the floor! All adults. I was the youngest speaker there, let alone at the whole conference! I had acquired the name “the 16-year-old blogger” LOL.

After my session, I even had the opportunity of being interviewed by Business Week Magazine! But unfortunately, it didn’t turn into a published article. But whatever the case, it was still Business Week!

I put this together in imovie, using the clips from the session and screen shots of my successes, such as receipts of my monthly payments from Google Adsense, blogs about me, etc.
